Our chairs incorporate the time-honored techniques and traditions of Windsor chair construction. Chair legs & spindles are split to ensure that they follow the grain and thus, have much more inherent strength than factory chairs which are often oblivious to the natural strength of grain direction. All chair legs and spindles are dried below any household ambient humidity level in a small kiln (as seen in the chairmaking notes on this page), thereby ensuring that all parts lock together tightly when introduced to standard humidity levels, even within climate-controlled homes.
Only solid Appalachian hardwoods will be found throughout our chairs. Gentle tooling facets from spokeshaves and travishers can be found on back spindles, arms and seats from the handcrafted process. This series of chairs feature elongated naturally flexible backs that comfortably encompass the sitter, whether enjoying a fine dinner with friends or settled in on a fine winter's night with a favorite book by the woodstove . Attention is devoted to woodgrain & figure to promote an aesthetic cohesiveness within each hand-made piece. Hand-rubbed oil finishes seal and enhance the natural beauty of the woodgrain.
We also take great pleasure in designing accompanying pieces to make the ambiance complete.
We will gladly entertain any chair/furniture design that the client may desire.
